Recently I came across this question from a young enthusiastic friend.
I must confess envying his good luck to have come across the word meditation at this young age in life.

Generally we people take interest in such topics when we are reaching half years of our total  life span when we lose interest in daily life, for some or other reasons. And start wondering why life does not make any sense ?
I told him that I am not a qualified person in the subject of meditation and other related things as to be able to answer. But applying common sense and my inner wisdom I can give some information on the topic. Then it is up to you to decide further in the matter.

It is advisable to refer to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra.

One must ensure to understand gist of each step and implement it in totality and then only proceed ahead.  No jumping the steps.
There is no fast train on spiritual path towards Samadhi.
Of these eight Sutras, it is better to initiate the proceeding step by step.

  1. Great post! And you're so right...it takes time. In addition to the yoga sutras, I found Satchidananda's teachings collected in the book Beyond Words incredibly enlightening with regards to meditation.
